Retail Spotlight: Website Design and Usability Best Practices

Internet Retailer's Web Design & Usability 2010 in Orlando, Florida which took place last week brought together experts in web site design and usability, representing the retailers and design professionals. Following is a brief summary of the latest in website design and usability best practices for Product Pages:

  • • Use bullets in product descriptions.
  • • Maximize the size of your main product image.
  • • Include multiple views of your products.
  • • Include video - recent studies show video can lift conversion rates even when they're not viewed.
  • • Make your selling price stand out from MSRP or Retail.
  • • Make use of Ajax technology to keep shoppers on the product pages for example AJAX Add to Cart
  • • Include Customer Reviews and Ratings.
  • • Use Mouseover or Pop-ups to describe unfamilar terms
  • • Make Add to Cart buttons the most prominent element on the page.
Solution Profile: Wish List and Gift Certificates
Wishlists and gift certificates leverage the strengths of the online medium, introduce new customers to your brand, and capture significant additional revenue streams. Given all these benefits, there should be an easy ROI argument for the time and investment required to make them an important part of your ecommerce website.

Wishlists and gift certificates are great viral marketing tools because they are targeted and the recipient is highly motivated to use them. When you get a gift certificate to an e-commerce site, you're going visit it and shop there (and, quite often, you're going to spend more than the certificate's value). And, when someone tells you that their wishlist is on a certain e-commerce site, you're quite likely to go there rather than guess at what they want. If you're running a B2C site without wishlists and gift certificates, you're leaving money on the table.

CORESense's new Wish List Feature gives your customer the ability to easily create, manage and send Wish Lists:
  • • Customers can quickly add products to a wish list without leaving the product page
  • • Wish Lists can be emailed to others.
  • • When an item is ordered the requested quantity on the Wish List can be automatically decremented.
  • • Items can be added directly to the cart from the Wish List.

Contact CORESense Account Services to learn how you can start using the new CORESense Wish List feature and gift certificates today.
